Claire Decker #01 // 2014 Season Update

June 3rd, 2014 (Eagle River, WI) //

Claire Decker #01This year I’m racing a brand new car from Wes Coon and Chris Wimmer. I was so excited to finally get to race it. It was my first time being in the car so during practice I was just getting use to how the new car worked. When it came to qualifying I did alright. I was happy for only being in the car for a short amount of time. There was thirteen cars and I ended up finishing eleventh. It was definitely a ruff start in the new car. The crew decided that I needed to get more time in the car so we went to Marshfield that Saturday for the Yellow River Part 1. Getting into the car right away again made me that much more comfortable. Practice was going really good and when we qualified I ended up third. In the 100 lap feature I started fourth row outside. The car was running great I could roll to the outside of many different drivers. I finished the feature in third with no damage to the car. I was very happy with how the night ended.

Plover is one of my home tracks I have many laps on this track so I knew everyone had high expectations. Practice was going very good I was running good lap times and I felt very comfortable. I qualified fifth out of thirty-two drivers. They took fourteen to the feature on time so I was in the feature right away. In the feature I started mid pack and once again the car felt really good one the outside line. I had made it up to sixth when the car started making a funny noise so I was forced to pull off. I definitely had a top three car it was a shame that I had to pull off.

Wisconsin Dells Twin 30 laps

I have never been to the dells with a super late model but I have been there a few times with my Mid American stock car so I was familiar with the track already. In practice the crew and I knew we were fast. I qualified second so I raced in the fast dash. The top six drivers pulled a number one through six to see where they would start. I grabbed a one so I started on pole. The race was only eight laps, I pulled away and held onto first place. It was my first fast dash win ever in a Super Late Model. After that fast dash win I was very excited for the feature. We would run thirty laps than take a break and run another thirty laps. In the first thirty I started seventh row outside. I had my work cut out for me but by the end of the first thirty laps I ended up in sixth position. I had some damage on the car so during the brake the crew fixed the car and made a few changes. In the second thirty laps I started sixth and ended the race in fifth. Combining the two races I tied for second overall. I was very happy with the results.

This weekend I will be racing in Wausau with the super late model. I will also be leaving Friday morning to go down to charlotte to compete in the PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge. The combine will be held Monday through Wednesday. I’m leaving early to see my sister Paige race in Langley, Virginia. I haven’t seen her sense she went down to Concord to race for Rev Racing. I happy I can see her and support her.
