Solid Weekend for the Decker Girls

June 5th, 2012 (Eagle River, WI) //

Friday // Decker Racing rolled into Golden Sands Speedway last Friday hoping to just finish the races clean and have no damage to the car.  They got that and much much more.  Paige was racing her super late there, and Natalie was racing her Super Stock.  This was Paige’s first time racing her late model this season, and also the first time racing at Golden Sands Speedway in a late model, so she was a little nervous.

Qualifying went very good for the little Decker girl, she qualified third, and then Paige qualified 10th in the late model.  Heats also went good, again no damage to the cars, and the girls were ready for feature time.

Natalie was up first, starting outside row 3, which was the 6th position.  She was ready to go, however she didn’t have a very good start, which caused her to lose a few positions.  But she was going to come back, she started gaining her spots back, and ended up the race with a solid third place finish. She was very happy, and her crew was as well.

Then the late model feature was up.  A 50 lap feature was about to begin, and Paige was in the back. Paige’s team elected to have her start in the back, because it was her first race at the track, and they wanted to gain some tires in their inventory.  There were 22 cars, and Paige was on a mission.  It took her quite a few laps to get past a few cars, but that didn’t stop her, she moved all the way up to 8th position, and impressed all.  She wanted to thank her crew, who she personally called to come and help, Mark Kraus, and Toby.

Both Decker girls finishing top 10, and the cars had no damage; a very successful race was under Decker Racing’s belts now.

Saturday // After a long night at Golden Sands, the Decker Racing trailer was ready to head to LaCrosse for the Mid American race.  Paige and Claire slept all the way there, preparing themselves for the race.

Qualifying began, and the girls were a little nervous, because they didn’t have time to scuff in their new tires. They were going to try their best though.  Claire however, had a very tight car, and had troubles with her car pushing through the corner, which in turn caused her not to have a good qualifying time at all.  Paige however had a decent car and qualified 14th, which mean she was “on the bubble”.  Paige then had to go to the winners circle, and roll the dice for the invert.  If she rolled a six, this sent her to the pole.  However to her disappointment, she rolled a five, which meant she missed the invert by one, and had to start in the back.

Feature time came, Paige started outside of James Swan in row 7, and Claire was inside row 9.  The girls were very disappointed about their starting positions, and were ready to gain back some spots.  Paige and Claire ended up making it up to 10th and 12th positions.  They were happy with the finish, and were proud to say they stayed right on Prietzel’s bumper.

The girls know that they are improving and are just trying there hardest at the Mid Am races. Our next Mid Am race is not for sure yet, but as always we will keep you updated.
