Natalie Decker’s Race Accomplishments so far this season

September 15th, 2014 (Eagle River, WI) // Natalie Decker, 17 year old Junior at Northland Pines High School in Eagle River, WI, has “had a banner year so far” stated Tom Ress, crew chief from Wausau, WI. “When people hear the world athlete they probably think of football or basketball players” Ress explains. “Well, in Natalie’s case, athlete pertains to race car driver.” Is a race car driver a true athlete?

According to ESPN Sports Science (see Denny Hamlin Sports Science ESPN u tube) a NASCAR driver’s heart beats 130 beats per minute, 30,000 beats per race, which is twice as much as a world class marathon runner. Internal car temperatures rise as high as 150 degrees, higher than Death Valley. The internal body temperature of a driver reaches 101 degrees and at 102 degrees hypothermia sets in. The driver pulls three G-Forces in a corner which puts 40 pounds of weight on their neck. In a 400 lap race that would be equivalent to 800- forty pound repetitions with their neck. If you have never thought of the physical effects watching a NASCAR race, you may think again.

Natalie Decker trains year round for racing by building and maintaining her strength, flexibility, reflexes, endurance, etc. “Playing varsity hockey with Northland Pines Hockey team is a great way to stay conditioned.” Natalie Decker stated.

Natalie has raced a limited late and super late model car this season at State Park Speedway, Wausau, WI; Golden Sands Speedway, Plover, WI; Marshfield Motor Speedway, Marshfield, WI; New Smyrna Speedway, New Smyrna, FL; Elko Speedway, Elko, MN; Wisconsin International Raceway, Kaukauna, WI; and Slinger Speedway, Slinger, WI. She has had nine feature wins, seven in the limited late and two in the super late model. Natalie has had over ten fast times and many heat wins. She is third overall in points and “Rookie of the Year” in her super late model at Golden Sands Speedway, fourth overall in points and “Rookie of the Year” in her super late model at State Park Speedway, and “Track Champion” in her limited late model at State Park Speedway.

“Many racers compete for 10 years or more before even accomplishing what Natalie has in her first year in the super late model” stated her dad, Chuck Decker.
Natalie will be finishing her season with an ARCA Midwest Tour race on September 20, 2014 in Elko, MN and Oktoberfest in La Crosse, WI October 2-5, 2014.

“Sponsors are such an important part of the team, without them racing would be unattainable.” Stated Sue Decker, Natalie’s aunt. “We treat our sponsors as our race family. Amsoil has provided us with top notch product and clothing, MDM Imaging makes car decals and stickers, Tom Loos Photography provides excellent race photos, Kim’s BS Sauce provides our team with the best cooking sauce ever, Heinrich landscaping, Mississippi Welders and Northwestern Mutual are also an important part of Natalie Decker Racing.”
